9 july psalm 115 - 8 july • • • when and where what to expect what we believe our story the team the kirk session can we be in touch? we are a christ-centred, bible-driven church in st andrews, fife. our passion is to know jesus & make him known. we are made up of people of all ages and stages of life and from many different nationalities; a mixture of local residents & students; a combination of young believers, mature christians & those investigating the christian faith for the very first time. we'd love for you to join us. when and where we meet on sunday mornings at st andrews baptist church on south street, in university term time we meet at 9:30am and 11:15am, and outside of that we meet at 10:30am. on sunday evenings we meet at 6pm at hope park & martyrs church on market street. what to expect our sunday services are time spent learning from the words of our lord jesus christ and praising him together. each service lasts for just over an hour, after which we serve tea and coffee. you can expect a warm welcome, a mixture of modern songs, well-known hymns and ancient psalms, and an engaging talk. you can listen to one of our recent talks on our resources page . what we believe god’s word the bible is perfect in every way and is the supreme authority of the church in all matters of faith and conduct - we want to believe what god says in the bible, and we want to live in obedience to him. but ever since the earliest days of the church, christians have laid out their beliefs in brief 'creeds' or 'confessions' in an attempt to summarise essential christian truths and to guard the church from error. these statements are always secondary to the bible but they are enormously helpful. for that reason, all leaders in are required to affirm the westminster confession of faith and to seek to live in the light of it. download a copy here. our story began life as a small church plant from st peter’s church, dundee around 2003. from those early beginnings, god has grown us to be a thriving church family. over the last 10 years the church has met in various locations and at various times but our core convictions and aims have remained unchanged. we believe passionately that the good news of the life, death and resurrection of jesus christ is not only true and relevant but also deeply fulfilling and life-changing. for that reason, we want to do everything we can to play our part in the global mission of god’s people. after he rose from the dead, jesus told his followers to ’make disciples of all nations’ (matthew 28.19) his words shape our aims as a church family. they can be summarized under three headings. to the glory of god, we seek to: reach out to people with the gospel of jesus christ build people up in the gospel of jesus christ send people out into the world as workers for jesus christ the team senior minister - paul clarke paul is married to emilie, and they have 3 children - fred, archie & sophie, and one dog - willow. paul joined us from st helen’s, bishopsgate in 2013 where he had worked for 14 years. he enjoys playing golf, going for walks with friends & family, and eating good food. associate pastor - hamish sneddon hamish grew up in perthshire, and after graduating from durham university was a ministry trainee at christchurch durham. after teaching for a couple of years he spent five years working in durham for uccf, and then moved here with the family in 2014. alongside serving as the associate pastor, with particular responsibility for the student ministry , hamish studies part-time at edinburgh theological seminary. he's married to marije, and they've got three children. along with hanging out with them, hamish enjoys reading, music and sports, including the annual vocation of supporting scotland rugby. women's worker - jody maciver jody grew up on the isle of lewis and studied in glasgow, where she completed a degree in english literature before spending a year on the scottish cornhill training course. she then spent two years as a ministry trainee at christ church cambridge. jody's delighted to be back in scotland, and especially to be near the beach again. she loves doing anything that involves spending time with her friends, particularly if it involves tea and cake. pastor in training - ciarán kelleher his accent and birth certificate might speak to the contrary but ciarán is a proud irish man from limerick city. after 3 years studying sport science in chester, ciarán slowly made his way further north, first in edinburgh, where he served as a ministry apprentice and now here in st. andrews. like hamish, ciarán also studies part-time at edinburgh theological seminary alongside working here at the free church, where he oversees the kids and youth work. ciarán is an avid rugby fan who also adores cinema (a new picture house regular). he has been married to sarah since the summer of 2017. ministry trainees our ministry trainee scheme aims to help people grow in love for jesus and to get a taste of serving him in a local church. catherine dalton catherine came to st andrews in september 2012 to study theology and biblical studies. she is married to tom whom she met while studying here and she is delighted to be able to stay in st andrews to do the ministry training programme. amongst other things she hopes the programme will help in equipping her to spend time working and sharing the gospel with prisoners and their families in the future. phil pickett being born in nepal and then later moving to wales, with parents from neither country left phil at a loss when it came to national identity. so naturally he came to scotland to study chemistry in st. andrews and then stayed on as a ministry trainee. phil hopes to go on to full time christian ministry whether in the u.k. or abroad and enjoys walking in the mountains, playing board games and cooking food for friends. kirsty mclaren kirsty is our newest ministry trainee. seemingly following a trend, she came to st andrews in 2013 to read her beloved history. in her third year she had a brilliant time studying abroad in both australia and norway. her adventures included swimming in fjords, skiing across frozen lakes and riding cantering camels in the outback. clueless about her plans post-traineeship, she is excited, if a little nervous, to see where in the world god leads her next. the kirk session our elders are responsible for the spiritual oversight of the congregation. alongside paul, hamish and ciarán they are: iain mcleod iain is married to rosemary and lives in markinch. they have two grown up children and four grandchildren. he is retired after many years in the civil service. iain spends a great deal of time processing forms in connection with the protection of vulnerable groups scheme on behalf of the free church at large. gregor macdonald gregor and his wife tina are our oldest members! (they joined when the church was just 3 months old back in 2004).they have 2 children eilidh and finlay. gregor teaches in kirkcaldy and in his spare time is a classic car enthusiast who also enjoys walking and golf. rob purvis rob grew up in st andrews and after studying history at university he decided he needed more excitement in his life and became an accountant. since the mid 1990s he has been involved in running a dairy business in manchester and nowadays also helps run the family farm just outside of town. rob is married to heidi and they have five children, two at university and three at school locally. when he is not working he likes to spend
